Michael Benson (left) and Shane McCloud took honors with 24 points this week as the Scramble Tour sponsored by Miller Light played at Ironwood Golf Course. The duo hacked out 6 pars (12 points) and a double bogey (0 points) through the first 7 holes and then closed their round with a birdie (4 points) and an eagle (8 points) to beat out three other teams who had tallied 20 points each to tie for second.

The recent 4-man scramble at Belle Acres resulted in a good turnout of players and some nice scoring. The results:
There was a tie at 6 under for the win between two teams who split the winner’s pot. Only one team’s picture was available. Winners not pictured are Ricky Bandy, Joe Herron, Donnie Loftis, Bryan Rodgers and Don Campbell.
Cookeville Golf Club will host the 2011 PGA Junior Championship this July 13 and 14 as player ages 13 to 18 compete to qualify for the national championship as one girl and one boy from this tournament will advance to represent the Tennessee section at the national tournament played this year at Sycamore Hills GC in Ft. Wayne, IN on August 2-5.
Quoted in an article on the Herald-Citizen web site Golf Club general manager and PGA professional Matt Manzaro said, ”It’s an opportunity to give back to the community of Cookeville. We always go out and ask for money to sponsor tournaments, but now we have an opportunity to bring people in from out of town and spend money in our community.”

52 players took part in the action with three teams tying at 8 under par necessitating a “chip off”.
The eventual winners were (L-R) – Lee Thomson, Brandon Ward, Jay Eland and DeWayne Tinch.
