Wilson and Wickersham win ‘Tour” at Cookeville Golf Club

PGA Junior Championship to be played at Cookeville Golf Club

Cookeville Golf Club will host the 2011 PGA Junior Championship this July 13 and 14 as player ages 13 to 18 compete to qualify for the national championship as one girl and one boy from this tournament will advance to represent the Tennessee section at the national tournament played this year at Sycamore Hills GC in Ft. Wayne, IN on August 2-5.

Quoted in an article on the Herald-Citizen web site Golf Club general manager and PGA professional Matt Manzaro said, ”It’s an opportunity to give back to the community of Cookeville. We always go out and ask for money to sponsor tournaments, but now we have an opportunity to bring people in from out of town and spend money in our community.”

McCloud makes it two in a row on Scramble Tour

Will Wilson (left) paired with Shane McCloud at the Cookeville Golf Club stop of the Scramble Tour sponsored by MIller Light to score 26 points and take the win claiming prizes provided by the host course. McCloud and Wilson made seven pars(14 pts), one birdie(4 pts) and one eagle(8 pts). The eagle came on the number 6 par 5 with a second shot from 170 yards that rolled to a stop just 7 feet from the hole. The duo of Peter Grima and Dale Hair scored 24 for second place and Michael Benson and his playing partner Harry McGugin tallied 23. Early season point standings have Grima in first place with 125 points and Benson at 120 points. The Tour plays a 20 week season rotating among the Cookeville area courses and plays next on June 8 at Belle Acres golf course. Dillon and Campbell Win Final Regular Season Round

COOKEVILLE GOLF CLUB – Lee Campbell and Bob Dillon won the final regular season round of the Scramble Tour sponsored by Miller Lite. The pair scored 23 points on the front nine at Cookeville Golf Club besting the team of Fred Hennings and Michael Benson by 1 point. The Tour will play a final “Playoff” round at White Plains Golf Course on Sept. 20 to determine the season champion. Harold Penley is the current leader at 257. COOKEVILLE GOLF CLUB – Scoring 25 points gave Neil Scalf and Bob Weaver the win on August 5, 2009 during play of the Scramble Tour sponsored by Miller Lite. The pair broke the winning streak of four in a row by Lee Campbell who scored 17 points during the same round. The winners were presented certificates for nine holes of play by Cookeville Golf Club and Harold Penley won the door prize for the week.

Campbell remains at the top of the points leader board, Harold Penley is second, and Weaver and Scalf along with Bob Dillon round out the top five places. The Tour will play a 20 week season, counting the 16 best scores during the regular season plus the 18 hole final round to determine the champion.

Mountain Ridge is the location of the August 12, 2009 competition. New players are always welcome.

Manzaro and Steakley in the Money

CHATTANOOGA, TN – The club pro at Cookeville Golf Club, Matt Manzaro and his playing partner Barrett Steakley finished in fourth place at the Waxo Green TPGA Pro-Pro Championship played July 20 and 21st, 2009 at the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club. The pair’s two day total of 132 earned them a prize of $1600.

In all, 60 TPGA professionals from Memphis to Bristol competed in this annual tradition.   Hosted by the recently renovated 6,685 yard par 71 Chattanooga Golf & Country Club all the competitors experienced golf at its finest along the banks of the Tennessee River. During the first day’s round professionals were paired with two amateurs in a Pro-Am format.   In all, 44 amateurs joined the professionals in this unique event.
