Former TTU golfer Stallings in top 75 on PGA Tour

Former Tennessee Tech golfer Scott Stallings recently recorded another top 25 finish and has moved into the top 74 in earnings and FedEx Cup points on the PGA tour.

Stallings, a 2007 graduate of TTU, fired a final-round 67, the lowest round of the day, in the Valero Texas Open to finish tied for 11th. Earlier in the season, he finished third in the Transitions Championship, playing on a sponsor’s exemption.

The 11th-place paycheck raised Stallings’ 2011 money total to $521,661, and gave him 266 FedEx points, ranking 75th and 74th, respectively on the tour.

Fairfield Glade’s Stonehenge to host State Senior Men’s Golf Open in May

FAIRFIELD GLADE-The Tennessee Senior State Open will be held at Stonehenge Golf Club here May 24-25, and officials say they expect the field to fill up quickly, as it did last year.

The City of Crossville will serve as the title sponsor for the Senior State Open, and Stonehenge is in the second year of a three-year agreement with the Tennessee Professional Golfers Association (TPGA) to host the event.

Benson, Null win opening round of 2011 Scramble Tour

Robert Null and Michael Benson emerged the winners after a putt-off among three teams in the first week of the Scramble Tour sponsored by Miller Light played on the White Plains golf course April 20, 2011. Benson and Null combined to score 24 points and tie with two other teams; Bob Dillon and Bill Hicks, Bernie Wickersham and Justin Jackson. Complete results can been seen by clicking here.

26 players competed in a two-man best ball scramble format using a modified Stableford system. The winning duo failed to score a point on one hole but made up the deficit with an eagle (8 points each), 2 birdies (4 points each), 3 pars (2 points each), and 2 bogies (1 point each) for a total of 24. The putt-off was conducted in the dark with a cell phone used to light the target pin for Benson to putt a ball the closest for the win.

The Tour welcomed 7 new players for the opening round.; joining were Bill Hicks, Harry McGugin, John Swift, John Cunningham, Bernie Wickersham, Mike Hughes, and David Moore.

Cookeville Golf Club will host the Tour on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. Draw for teams will begin at 4:50 p.m. and tee time is 5 p.m. New players are always welcome.

Twenty eight players competed for honors during the first 2011 weekly scramble held at White Plains golf course. The team of Scott Nicholson, David Ladd, Tony Oliphant, Jim Cryer took first place with a 9 under round and Seavy Barefoot, Victor Harrison, Glynn Lafever, Jerry Abston combined for an eight under score to finish second. Seavy Barefoot claimed the closest to the pin prize while Mark Brady made the longest putt of the evening.
