WHITE PLAINS GOLF COURSE – The team of Lee Campbell and Harold Penley won the 11th week’s play on the Scramble Tour sponsored by Miller Light. Campbell and Penley scored 26 points by making 4 birdies and 5 pars on the front nine here. Each of the winners was presented, by the host course, a certificate for nine holes of play. Three other teams tied at 24 points each and a third scored 23 making it one of the most competitive weeks of play on the tour.
The Tour plays next Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Ironwood with a 5 p.m. tee time. The tour players voted to extend the season by another 4 weeks so there is still plenty of time for new players come to join the Tour. Come to Ironwood and get in on the fun. The Scramble Tour rotates play among the Cookeville, TN area courses each Wednesday evening and keeps a season long points total to determine a champion. IRONWOOD GOLF COURSE - The Putnam County Parks & Recreation Department’s Junior Clinic for ages 6 – 8 started Tuesday July 7, 2009 with 33 youngsters taking instruction in golf etiquette and safety, club types, and swing methods. The camp will continue on Wednesday at 8 a.m. and then will finish with a tournament on Thursday. Children 6-8 years old may join the group on Wednesday morning. The Wednesday July 1, 2009 ABCD was won by the team of Jim McGray, Bob Winningham, Dale “Squeaky” Myers and Todd Allison. Bernie Wilkerson hit it closest on the #6 hole and Dewey Jones(not pictured) took the #9 hole closest shot prize.
Winning the Thursday couples out of a field of 72 players with an 8 under score were Hoyal Wilkerson, Maggie Phelps, Megan Sullivan and Addison Smith.
Daphene Richardson landed the ball only 4 inches from the hole on #3 to get the closest to the hole award on Thursday evening at Southern Hills.
Winners for the Wednesday couples at Belle Acres Golf Course. Dwaine Franklin’s shot at # 9 was within 5 feet to win the Closest to the Pin prize.
COOKEVILLE GOLF CLUB – Neal Scalf and Harold Penley teamed to win the 10th week of play on the Scramble Tour. The two carded three birdies and six pars to total 24 pts and win a nine hole round of golf each provided by the host course, Cookeville Golf Club. Penley and Scalf looked to be in danger of making bogey on their last hole after wayward tee shots on the par 3 3rd hole. Left with 45 -50 yard pitch over a cart path and a bunker they managed to get it to about 5 feet and save par with the putt.
The week’s round was closely contested with two teams scoring 22 pts. and another at 21. See all the results here. The Tour added something new this week. A drawing for a “door” prize. This week’s winner was Neal Scalf, receiving a folding portable drinks table from one of the tour sponsors, Miller Lite.
The Scramble Tour sponsored by Miller Lite plays the Cookeville area golf courses on a rotating basis. A random draw each week determines teams and a modified Stableford system is used for scoring. White Plains Golf Course is the host for the July 8, 2009 event. Tee time is 5 p.m. and new players are always welcome.
